Born in New Mexico in 1958 or 1960, Calvin Martinez learned silversmithing from his parents. He's been making jewelry since the 1980s. 

Martinez's jewelry is inspired by traditional Navajo artisans and features heavy gauge silver and high-quality natural stones, especially gem-grade turquoise. He uses traditional techniques, including hand cutting his bezels. 

Martinez's designs reflect the Navajo philosophy of harmony between earth and sky. He prays over each piece to promote safety and happiness for the wearer. 

Martinez's work has been recognized by collectors. He's taught other artists, including his brothers and his brother-in-law.
