Henry Cardenas, an award-winning artist for his paintings and sculptures.  He is a native of and resides in San Antonio and earned his MBA in Business Administration from St. Mary’s University.  He has painted vivid landscapes and abstracts and created unusual sculptures most of his life.  He creates intriguing sculptures of metal, wood, and glass or stone combinations.  His art inspirations started as a young child drawing, painting, and making toys.

As a Resident Artist at The Little Studio Gallery in historic downtown La Villita, San Antonio, Tx, celebrating its 53rd year, Cardenas maintains a continuing exhibition of his exciting paintings and unique sculptures.  With numerous juried competitions, Cardenas has exhibited his paintings and sculptures with winning entries in many venues.  He has also curated exhibits and served as Juror. 

Cardenas is one of twelve Texas artists selected as “Texas’ Premiere Contemporary Artists” who exhibited two times in the Smithsonian Affiliate, the Institute of Texan Cultures-UTSA from 2010-2014 and in 2018.  The University of Texas at San Antonio has twenty-two of his paintings and sculptures in their permanent collection.  Cardenas has been featured in publications such as the prestigious New York magazine Fine Art Connoisseur, Texas Highways Magazine, the Children’s Hospital-Christus Santa Rosa Foundation magazine, the CC Magazine (Corpus Christi, Tx), Travel Host, The Art Lovers’ Cookbook, the San Antonio Express News, the SA Current, and various San Antonio tourist publications.

In September 2015, Cardenas was proud to exhibit at The Art Center of Corpus Christi in the VSA Texas Wounded Warriors juried show and in November 2016 at the annual juried exhibit of The Art Center of CC.  He has also served as a Juror of an exhibit at the Art Center of Corpus Christi.  Cardenas had his fourth Invitational Exhibit at San Antonio’s oldest museum, the San Antonio Art League and Museum, in King William, November-December 2015.  He exhibited there again January – March, 2019.  Henry has had thirteen annual solo exhibits at the Bijou Cinema Gallery Theatre.  He exhibited at The Spring Bull Gallery, Newport, RI, Dec 2016, and Imago Gallery, Warren, RI, Jan 2017. 

In Jan 2018, Cardenas again exhibited in the Invitational Alamo Kiwanis Charity Art Show.  The San Antonio International Airport exhibited his paintings in Terminal A from July 2018 – February 2019.  In October 2019, Henry exhibited in the annual Grey Forest Open Studio Tours.  Henry is proud to also be represented by the Adobe Fine Art, Ruidoso, NM, the San Antonio Artists Collective, San Antonio, and the Hendricks Gallery in San Antonio.  Cardenas has paintings and sculptures exhibited continuously in his own gallery, Little Studio Gallery in historic La Villita, San Antonio.  He is the featured artist two times each year with new artistic creations. 

For several continuous years, Cardenas has exhibited at Arthritis Associates in the SA Medical Area with new paintings exhibited each quarter.  He also has art in their permanent collection.  He participates in many noteworthy fundraising exhibits for non- profit medical and educational organizations.  In addition to the UTSA collections, he was invited to have his art in the collections of the University of Texas Health Science Center and St. Phillips College.  Cardenas’ acclaimed art is in personal and corporate collections throughout the United States and is in collections in numerous countries.  He is proud to now have third generation art collectors acquiring his art.
