Creating has been a life long pursuit for Janis. In
college, a French major with an emphasis on art, music,
and literature have provided her with a strong cultural
base which has been enhanced by travel to Europe.
“Seeing Europe with an artist’s eye is truly a
transforming experience.”
An intrinsic affinity for color and design has taken
Janis through multiple yet related medias…textiles,
watercolor, oils, and acrylics. Janis believes that
every medium is a unique opportunity to express from the
artist’s creative wellspring. “From every artistic
endeavor the exact taking and leaving of elements to
create one’s own artistic statement is the authentic
journey.” states Loverin.
Janis attributes her artistic evolution to a true
passion for her work which has been enhanced by gifted
teachers…Joseph Fettingis, Ann Templeton, Bob Burridge,
Ken Hosmer, Jo Beth Gillam, McCreary Jordan, Don Getz,
and numerous others.
Janis’ work has had an immediate following since it’s
inception based on her spirited use of color and
intuitive design.
Artist’s Statement
“As I take brush in hand, a dance between reality and
the whimsical world of color begins. Whether the media
is flowing watercolor, vibrant acrylic, or luscious,
creamy oils…my art is all about color. My subjects range
widely from the playful to the serene. As a native New
Mexican, creative impressions of its landscapes and
vibrant culture are a major focus. I describe my work as
representational with a certain kinetic energy. My
intent is to tell a story…leaving room for the viewer’s
imagination to expand that story in a direction of their
own choosing. The message received and simultaneously
created by the viewer is the element that evokes a sense
of ‘This piece in mine…it speaks to me’.”
