Denise Imke began painting in 1976 after she moved to
New Mexico. There she found the opportunity and
inspiration to pursue a lifelong interest in art. She
has explored many mediums such as watercolor, pastel,
pen & ink and silver smithing, but has always returned
to her first love – oil painting.
Still life in a classical style is her favorite genre
however; recently Denise has taken her easel outdoors to
discover the joy and challenge of painting New Mexico’s
beautiful landscape in plein air.
Denise studied art at New Mexico Junior College and
Eastern New Mexico University. She has also studied with
artists such as Ben Konis, Lois Easley, Vickie Clark,
Tom Darrah and Ann Mann and was awarded a merit
scholarship by the Scottsdale Art School in Scottsdale,
Arizona to study with nationally acclaimed artist
Sherrie McGraw. Her painting “Copper Pot” was accepted
by the Scottsdale Art School to exhibit in their juried
“Best & Brightest” show in 2003.
Denise’s work has been exhibited throughout the
southwest. She is currently represented by The Adobe in
Ruidoso, New Mexico.
