The Texas Rangers as well as the Arizona Rangers, who were mostly ex-Texas Rangers, rode over a vast territory to bring justice to the country. There were outlaws a plenty and way more than enough Apache and Comanches for several armies. His territory had no boundaries when it came to catching some bad outlaw. He would ride deep into Mexico - a dangerous place for Rangers as there was a constant war with the Mexicans for decades - or any surrounding territory to get his man. They not only chased bad men, they explored and mapped the country. Some of the better Rangers had been surveyors before their rangering days, learning to survive when many didn't. Because of their skill, there is a story that is still circulated and used today. A Ranger was sent to a town that was having a riot. The mayor asked "...Where are the rest of you?!" The Ranger asked "How many riots do you have?" The mayor answered "One." "Well, one Ranger should be enough then." Some really bad men that were caught by them received justice on the spot with a fast necktie party, well deserved. There wasn't time to round up a million dollar attorney.
