The surveyors and map makers played a large part in the settling of the American Frontier. In 1842 John C. Freemont explored and mapped a trail as far as South Pass and the Windriver Mountains. His report inspired the opening of the Oregon Trail. The early map makers were in constant danger from Indians and grizzlies, and often went hungry for days.
This is my tribute to the great Artist who mapped the early frontier of the American West.
